If you have shoulder pain (most of us Boomers do at some point), pass this info on to your trainer.
One of my favorite sites for shoulder info is Shoulder Performance and Rehab, and today their update led me to this interesting article from Mike Reinold.
(If you’re a baseball fan, you’ll recognize several of the names dropped below as the top docs in shoulder rehab.)
Here’s a quick quote:
I want to share the postoperative protocol that I have developed with Kevin Wilk and James Andrews.
While there is still a lack of efficacy studies, these guidelines have proven to us to be both safe and effective in the rehab of 1000’s of patients at our centers.
I also am currently involved in the very early phase of the development of a consensus statement on the preferred postoperative guidelines following rotator cuff repair. This groups consists of many of the leaders of physical therapy, such as Kevin Wilk, George Davies, Todd Ellenbecker, Bob Mangine, Tim Tyler, and many, many more.
Our goal is to develop and educate others, including physical therapists and orthopedic surgeons, on what we have been doing for years as part of our rehabilitation programs.
Rehabilitation Protocol Following Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair, Sep 2008
Lucky me – I once had the pleasure of attending a conference with James Andrews, Kevin Wilk, George Davies and Todd Ellenbecker. They’re truly the tops in the field of shoulder rehab.
Don’t you deserve the same rotator cuff rehab (and prehab) program the pros use? Of course you do.
Again, this is high level info that maybe you won’t be able to understand yourself (nothing personal
, but make sure your personal trainer and your health care team take a look.

Stephen,
Thanks for mentioning Shoulder Performance & Rehab. Mike Reinold really does a great job of explaining some very technical issues.
BTW, I recorded a testimonial for the Rotater months ago. I’m just having some technical difficulties getting it uploaded. – Stephen
