Dr. Summers:
Dr. Shorr, I’m going to ask you to elaborate on the effects of the Alpha Lipoic Acid that is used in Stemulite. You being the co-inventor on this product I think your background in that particular aspect would be beneficial for our viewers.

Dr. Shorr:
Sure. Let me tell you about Lipoic Acid. All human cells, all mammalian cells, have a portion of their structure which is called the mitochondria. In a sense this is the Con-Edison of the cell, where energy is produced, ultimately extracted to the limit from glucose.

In many disease states and in order to maintain health, Lipoic Acid is either lacking or is present but in insufficient amounts and unable to get to where it needs to go.

The Lipoic Acid molecule itself is somewhat controversial as to whether the body has the ability to make it or whether it’s an essential nutrient. The majority opinion is that it’s actually an essential nutrient.

Without it, mitochondrial function, the ability to produce energy and the function of the mitochondria begins to become compromised and either there will be a lack of the full benefit of the health that a person might be able to achieve or a disease can actually occur.

Lipoic Acid activity is predominantly linked to its ability to serve as an antioxidant. We’ve all heard about Vitamin E and we’ve heard about various other types of antioxidants and their benefits.

Lipoic Acid is a much stronger antioxidant than any of these and is actually very specifically required in the mitochondria of every healthy human cell.

Where it has found to be of benefit is in maintaining and establishing a healthy state for the cells but also even in treating such diseases as diabetes and neuropathies that are associated with it as well as other forms of diseases including some types of cancer.

The way that the molecule works is by actually becoming a cofactor to an enzyme in the mitochondria and allowing the maximum extraction of energy from the food that we consume.

Very often it’s missing in our diets and not only is it missing in our diets but not every individual is capable of absorbing what is in their diet to the same degree.

Dr. Summers:
So a deficiency, in the diet or otherwise, would affect the overall vitality of a person, their strength, their endurance, all of those factors that have to do with vital living, correct?

Dr. Shorr:
Absolutely. Energy is produced in the mitochondria and without efficient production of energy the body simply cannot perform at its optimum or ultimately cannot even survive. If we were to take ten people and put them in a room and serve them the identical meal we cannot guarantee that each of those people will absorb what they need from that meal to the same degree.

In the types of products that we’re putting together we have, if you will, leveled the playing field so that the formula of the essential nutrients is such that it is in its most easily absorbed form and therefore what we call in science bio-available. Meaning it’s available to be used by the body and is not something that’s simply going to wash away.

This is a critical feature and a major distinction between different types of product that may have the same name but the way that products are prepared and are ultimately served will make a very big difference in their efficiency of absorption and how well they are ultimately used within the body.
