How to Lose Your Love Handles – from Yahoo!Answers

by Stephen Holt, Stemulite Fitness Pro

Here’s an interesting question from Yahoo!Answers on love handles …

Love Handles????????

[And that's a direct quote with including the eight question marks. I guess eight question marks after the words "Love Handles" now makes it an actual question.]

what excersizes can i do to make my love handles smaller?? i don’t want muscle, i want less fat.
(and please don’t say you can’t target weight loss b/c that just won’t help me)

First, use your spell check.

Second, what’s with you kids and your lower case “i’s?” Obv-I-ously It’s not all that hard to h-I-t the sh-I-ft and cap-I-tal-I-ze your “I.”

Most important …

You’re basically saying, “I want an answer, but don’t dare give me the real answer because I won’t listen to it. Just give me a crappy ‘answer,’ tell me what I want to hear, and make me happy.”

Of course, I didn’t take my valuable time to answer her because I didn’t want to lower my ungodly “Best Answer” ratio.

So, here’s your REAL answer to losing your love handles …

Listen up. Ready?

You can’t spot reduce. You can’t spot reduce! You can’t spot reduce!!

Face it, it’s the truth.

Researchers a study at the University of Massachusetts had subjects do a total of 5,000 sit-ups over 27 days.

Fat biopsies from the abs, butt and upper backs showed they lost virtually equal amounts of fat from each of the three sites.

When you exercise, you burn fat all over. But ab exercise doesn’t selectively burn ab fat.

So, is there a more efficient way to burn ab fat?

A study published in the Journal of Applied Physiology* (Regional body composition changes in women after 6 months of periodized physical training) looked at a group of women in a military physical training program. The women exercised for 90 minutes five days a week over the course of six months.

Their exercise program consisted of standard military drills, running, and multi-joint exercises like squats, bench press, and shoulder press.

At the end of the study, over half of the 5.7 pounds of fat they lost came from their abdominal region. The rest came from their arms.

(Read that again.)

Yep, they lost arm fat without doing arm exercises.

And they lost zero leg fat despite all the leg exercises they did.

The researchers concluded: You lose fat faster from different parts of your body regardless of the type of exercise you do.

Women tend to lose more fat in the arms, then the abs and back, then the legs.

I’m confused.

You said, “Yep, they lost arm fat without doing arm exercises.”

But, just above that, you included bench press and shoulder press in their list of exercises. Those are arm exercises, aren’t they?

Obviously bench presses and shoulder presses involve the arms but no one would ever label them “arm exercises.”

The main point was that the subjects lost fat in their arms without doing the standard kick backs and dips that so many women waste their time doing.
