Here’s what Kathy Kaehler at Los Angeles Daily News has to say about one of my favorite ways to workout …
Q: Now that it’s spring, I’d like to get back to exercising. But I’m bored by my old routine. What can I do to liven my workout that’s not too expensive?
A: A great way to get in shape is jumping rope. It is fun and easy to learn, you can do it at home, and it is inexpensive.
. . .Incorporate your jumping into any cardio program that you already are doing. If you work out on cardio equipment, take a few jump-rope breaks during your workout.
To burn more calories, jump rope between your strength-training sets.
It depends on how easy (or not) jumping rope is for YOU. If it’s so easy it’s like long, slow cardio – save it for a long, slow cardio day. If it’s really hard for you, though, it fits well with the anaerobic effects of weight training.
Jumping rope is fun and energetic. It burns calories and can really get you in great shape.
Start jumping today. Your heart and bones will thank you.
Again, if you’re a newbie, your heart and bones might rebel! When people ask what I think about jumping rope, I always reply that the only issue is that you need to be in great shape already before you can benefit from jumping rope. Otherwise, it’s too intense for the vast majority of people.
