American Idol Winner New Fitness Guru?

ruben studdardHey, Ruben, I don’t try to sing (thank goodness), so why are you trying to do my job?

My researchers have informed me the former winner Ruben Studdard is now a spokesperson for fit and healthy lifestyles in his home state of Alabama.

Studdard is part of a campaign called “Scale Back Alabama” to get his fellow residents to lose a total of 10 million pounds.

About 25% of Alabamans are considered obese.

Studdard, who has recently lost over 100 pounds, says, “I’m not where I want to be, but I’m on the right track, and I’m excited about encouraging other Alabamians to begin their own weight-loss journeys.”

He started his healthier diet and “because I have a family history of and high blood pressure and things of that nature.”

Studdard adds: “I felt like it was necessary for me to combat those issues at a young age before it became a bigger issue. I went to this place called Duke Diet & Fitness Center for a month and learned how to change my eating habits.”

Scale Back Alabama hopes to get help people lose 10 pounds in eight weeks (starting Jan. 4).

Of course, since you know me by now, you know exactly what I have to say:

1) 10 pounds in eight weeks is a little ambitious for the vast majority of people.

2) 10 pounds of what? Fingernails? Hair (in my case)? Let’s focus on losing fat. With a goal of ten pounds of whatever in eight weeks, there’s a high chance of losing some muscle, too (that’s a bad thing, in case you weren’t sure).

3) Don’t wait until Jan 4, or any other random date in the future. If your reasons are right and you really want to change, start right now.

4) You really shouldn’t have to lose 100 pounds. Once you’ve hit that 20 or 30 or 40 pounds overweight point, you should start to get the hint that maybe you should drop a few, huh?

and 5) All things great and wonderful come from Duke University.

P.S. Did you know Ruben Studdard used to work with that “other” superstar trainer from Duke University, Gunnar Peterson (the “Core Secrets” guy)?

Gee! Thanks for so much encouragement. I’m glad your not my personal trainer. You’d probably drive me to jump off a cliff with all your negativity. My friends and I are going on Monday to join the Scaleback Alabama program. Thank goodness you won’t be there. Hope you gain 2o pounds this year.

(See, I post all non-spam comments)

    All MY negativity?!

As for gaining 20 pounds, I’m the same weight I was when I played college football against the likes of Lawrence Taylor and Boomer Esiason, but “thanks for so much encouragement.”

Take another look at my points above:

    1) It’s simple math. Anyone who understands physiology will tell you the same. One of the reasons most people fail in their weight loss efforts is that their goals are unreasonable.

Set yourself up for success instead with more reasonable goals.

    2) If your weight loss isn’t fat, it’s coming from muscle, water, or even internal organs.

    3) I can’t state it any plainer.

    4) Yep, it’s harsh, but ask yourself why you chose NOW to lose weight when the truth is that you know you could have started a few pounds ago. True?

    5) Okay, the basketball team isn’t as great this year.

As my mom taught me to say in situations like this, “God Bless You.” I hope you LOSE 20 pounds this year.

Good for him. He needed to lose weight for sure. So I’m glad he finally decided to do it. I’m from alabama so I see him promoting everything here. :o)
