Nike+iPod – use your iPod as a personal trainer

And still the leading names in fashion clamour desperately for assocation with the iPod. This time it’s Nike with their Nike+iPod Sport Kit.

It’s actually of more practical use than most – it’s a wireless system that allows Nike+ footwear to transfer workout data to your iPod nano. The kit consists of an in-shoe sensor and a receiver that attaches to iPod. It collates information on time, distance, calories burned and pace, which is then stored on the iPod and displayed on the screen.

This Nike/iPod combo, unlike a lot of tech gadgets that serve no real purpose beyond the initial “Wow – cool!,” this actually does something useful – though, if you’ve read my articles, you know no “sensor” can accurately measure the number of calories you burn. There are far too many other variables involved including your sex, economy of movement, and current level of conditioning.
